Ruqyah Shariah – Authentic Qur’anic Healing According to the Sunnah

What Is Ruqyah Shariah?

Ruqyah Shariah refers to the permissible and authentic method of spiritual healing prescribed in Islam — based entirely on Qur’anic recitation, prophetic supplications, deep understanding of the Qur’an and reliance on Allah alone.

It is the opposite of un-Islamic or superstitious forms of healing that involve charms, symbols, talismans, or calling upon other than Allah. The word “Ruqyah” means recitation for healing, and “Shariah” means according to Islamic law.

So, Ruqyah Shariah literally means:

Healing through Qur’anic recitation and understanding in a way that fully aligns with the Sunnah and the principles of Shariah.

Evidence from Qur’an and Sunnah

The legitimacy of Ruqyah Shariah is established in multiple authentic hadiths:

  • The Prophet ﷺ said:

“There is no harm in Ruqyah as long as it does not involve shirk.”
    (Sahih Muslim)

  • He himself performed Ruqyah and permitted companions to do so using the Qur’an, especially Surah Al-Fatihah and Al-Mu‘awwidhatayn (Al-Falaq & An-Nas).

From this, scholars agreed:

  • Ruqyah is permissible when performed using Allah’s words and words that invoke Allah (alone) for a cure.
  • It is forbidden when mixed with shirk.

The Core Principles of Ruqyah Shariah

For Ruqyah to be considered Shariah-compliant, it must not contain any shirk (associating partners with Allah). For example:

  1. It uses Qur’an and authentic duas
    – e.g. Ayat al-Kursi, Al-Falaq, Al-Nas, Al-Ikhlas, Al-Baqarah 2:285-286

  2.  It uses the Names of Allah.

  3. It is words that invokes Allah (alone) for a cure.

Ruqyah Shariah is therefore purely spiritual and non-exploitative. At Ruqyah.org, all practitioners are trained under these Shariah principles — ensuring that sessions are conducted safely, ethically, and with full tawakkul (trust in Allah).

What Can Ruqyah Shariah Help With?

Ruqyah Shariah can bring relief and protection from:

  • Sihr (black magic)

  • Evil eye (al-ʿayn)

  • Jinn possession

  • Emotional or spiritual distress

  • Sleep disturbance, anxiety, or blockages in life

While Ruqyah is not a replacement for medical or psychological treatment, it complements professional care by addressing the spiritual dimension of illness.

How a Ruqyah Shariah Session Works

  1. Assessment — Your practitioner listens to your concerns and symptoms.

  2. Recitation — Specific Qur’anic verses and duas are recited over you, water or other delivery mediums.

  3. Observation — The practitioner monitors your reactions and advises follow-up steps.

  4. Aftercare — You are given advice on how to maintain healing.
